State and Federal Aid Programs

The United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties continued its role as local administrator for the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). In Fiscal Year 2019-2020, the local board leveraged $366,943.16 in SFPP funds to provide nearly 312,331 pounds of food and assist 15,009 households through nine agencies. The FEMA dollars provide supplemental funds for emergency food and shelter needs. During Phase 36, more than $113,000 in federal funds were awarded to five local organizations to help meet those needs.
