Wayne County Campaign

Dear Friend,

For more than 10 years, the United Way has worked side-by-side with business and community leaders, local government officials and nonprofit organizations in Wayne County to fight for the residents of this vibrant community. In excess of $550,000 in grant funds has been distributed to more than a dozen community organizations providing critical services in the county. But the impact of the United Way in Wayne County is even more far-reaching as they’ve leveraged those dollars with direct and in-kind services such as educational tax credits, VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), the Gift of Warmth and more for a sum total of approximately $1.2 million in the last decade.

Last year, 14 grants totaling almost $50,000 were awarded to help fund critical services throughout the county.

It is truly amazing how many ways your gift helps the people of Wayne County every day.  Please consider the following examples:

Over 100 individuals with special needs participated in pre-employment training, supported employment and transition to work programs through Devereux Pocono Center.

Because of United Way Funding, The Salvation Army provided 87 low income children with back to school clothing.

Approximately 1,446 households received fresh fruit and vegetables from the Wayne County Food Pantry to go along with their meals.

Victim’s Intervention Program provided almost 1,300 hours of crisis and counseling services in schools to over 130 children.

A roof repair at the Wayne County YMCA that was partially funded by the United Way helped provide a safe environment for the 3,000 community members.

These statistics are just some of the life-changing programs at work every day in our community because of your support of the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties.

As we face another year of uncertain economic conditions, please give as much as you can and if you’ve given in the past, please consider increasing your gift.  Your pledge will allow the United Way to continue the vital work necessary to maintaining the fabric and vitality or our community.

Sincerely,
