Cigna and Bank of AMerica Volunteers Honored

Scranton, PA (January 15, 2018) –The United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties, the Commission on Economic Opportunity (CEO)/Weinberg Food Bank and the Scranton School District recently honored two outstanding corporate volunteer groups for their dedicated service to helping more area families in need access nutritious food and important community services.

Since 2014, volunteers with Cigna and Bank of America have volunteered at Isaac Tripp and McNichols Plaza as part of monthly Children’s Produce Market/Neighborhood Under One Roof events to distribute fresh fruits, vegetables and other nutritious food items to Scranton School District elementary school students and their families while providing educational activities and helping them learn more about a variety of community services available.

“The volunteers from Cigna and Bank of America are truly the backbone of this project,” noted Lisa Berardelli, education program director at the United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties. “Without their dedication and support, this program would not be possible.”

To date, Cigna has provided 163 volunteers giving a total of 651 hours of service at 21 events at Isaac Tripp Elementary and Bank of America has provided 387 volunteers giving a total of 813 hours of service at 37 events at McNichols Plaza Elementary to benefit hundreds of area families.
