The United Way of Lackawanna County was approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to be a Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship Organization beginning in FY 2005/2006, and we are proud to say that we led the way as one of the first United Ways in Pennsylvania to receive this designation.

Our Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship Program offers tuition assistance to children from financially eligible families attending or wishing to attend approved pre-school programs that meet the stringent guidelines set forth by the DCED. Last year, the following companies supported this program and raised more than $133,000. These funds helped nearly 100 income eligible families send their children to qualified pre-kindergarten programs.
