Alexis
de Tocqueville
Society
More
than 13 years
ago, the
United Way
of
Lackawanna
County’s Alexis de Tocqueville
Society was
formed to honor
our most
generous donors
who have a deep
commitment to
our community
and a strong
tradition of
philanthropy to
create real,
lasting change
in people’s
lives. Since
then, this
extraordinary
group of
community
leaders has
contributed more
than $2.5
million to
address a broad
range of needs
while
strengthening
our entire
region.
The members of
the
United Way
of
Lackawanna
County’s
Tocqueville
Society fulfill
the 19th Century
writings of the
French
aristocrat,
Alexis de
Tocqueville, by
exhibiting the
American
philanthropic
spirit.
Membership in
United Way's
Tocqueville
Society—with an
annual gift of
$10,000 or
more—is one of
the most
effective ways
to make a
powerful
difference in
the lives of
people in our
community who
most need our
help.
Rhoda Higgins
Warren
Association
Mrs.
Rhoda Higgins
Warren was one
of the first
volunteers of
the Lackawanna
County Community
Chest—precursor
to the United
Way. Mrs. Warren
served as a
community
volunteer for
more than 70
years,
dedicating her
life to making a
better life for
others less
fortunate than
she.
Members of the
Rhoda Higgins
Warren
Association are
community
leaders who
believe in the
volunteer spirit
so embodied by
Mrs. Warren.
Association
members make
their personal
commitment to
continue Mrs.
Warren's work
with an annual
contribution of
$1,000 or more
to the United
Way.
Currently
raising more
than $665,000
annually, the
Association is
vital in helping
to make
available the
critical
services and
programs that
truly matter in
this community.
